With the evolving world, we must bring about required changes in the way of imparting education and methods of teaching. Education in the modern world requires skill development as much as it requires reading and writing.
To ensure that the students are fully equipped to gracefully and victoriously survive in the transforming world, the curricula and facilities at Doon International School, Amritsar are so designed as to provide the students with opportunities to develop skills such as effective communication, decision making, value judgment , independent thinking, teamwork, leadership qualities, creativity enhancement, research promotion and problem solving. We, at DIS, realise that an integrated approach of nature and nurture is quintessential in this world which is dynamic and always in flux. We aptly know that the standardised curriculum, with little or no flexibility, won’t any longer suit the diversified needs of the learners.
The integrated curriculum in which we let our students prosper is well structured, carefully planned, accountable and appropriate that incorporates the best pedagogic practices keeping in mind learners’ multiple intelligence and learning styles. This curriculum is based on the belief that the children are like saplings and need to be nurtured with full care. Our coursework is built not on the conception of separate subjects, but on the much more fertile idea of disciplines, which makes possible a fluid and dynamic curriculum that is interdisciplinary in nature. It invariably creates a positive learning environment and the consequence is happy, empowered, well adjusted and competent learners who possess the skills to move and make their own world.
Ours is a thematic, integrated and developmentally appropriate learning programme, designed after proper research and development, that provides experiential learning and ensures holistic development through a multi-sensory approach, transporting the young learners to a higher level of thinking.
We duly give our attention towards the development of basic skills and higher level thinking, encourage life long learning, structure learning around themes, big ideas and meaningful concepts and provide connections among various curricular disciplines, along with providing learners opportunities to practically put to use various skills they have learned.
Our curriculum encourages active participation in the pertinent real-life experiences. The books and activities that we prescribe intensely captivate, motivate, challenge and scaffold learners along with furnishing a deeper understanding of content. Additionally the students are exposed to the diversity of sports activities such as Archery, Chess, Table tennis, Yoga, Aerobics, Snooker, Karate, Shooting, Pool table, Kick Boxing, Gymnastics, Handball, Foosball, Air Hockey in indoor games; Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket, Lawn tennis, Horse riding, Football, Golf, Hockey, Badminton, Skating, Hand Ball in outdoor sports. We have expert and professional trainers for each sport and an international standard ground for the sports activities to be carried out.
We never forget that there are other equally important factors in the successful education of our young learners – the educators and parents. The educators are not just endowed with an effective curriculum, but also are constantly empowered to imbibe the curriculum in the learners. Also, student’s performance is regularly shared with parents to keep them in loop of their child’s progress.
At Doon International School, we believe that each child is a miracle and that there hasn’t been and never will be another like him. All we have to do is nurture the creative and curious spirit of the children – stoke the flame and let the fire burn.
